Risk - Internal Audit Series
Course
Identifying, managing & evidencing risk in practice
Risk management is one of the most frequently cited weak points, not because providers lack risk registers, but because risk is not actively used to drive decisions, monitoring or improvement.
This session recorded in March 2026 focuses on whether risk management is operating as a living system, rather than a static document prepared for audit purposes.
Participants undertake a structured internal audit of their risk management approach, testing whether risks are genuinely identified, reviewed, treated & escalated in line with organisational reality.

What this session audits
- The organisation’s risk framework and methodology.
- Risk identification across all operating functions.
- Risk ratings, controls and treatment actions.
- How risk informs planning, monitoring and decision-making.
- Review cycles, escalation pathways and accountability.
- Evidence that risk is actively reviewed and updated.
Regulatory focus
This session is anchored to Quality Area 4 of the Outcome Standards, with particular emphasis on:
- Standard 4.3 - Any risks to VET students, staff and the organisation itself are identified and managed.
If risk is not driving behaviour, monitoring and decisions, it will not withstand scrutiny, regardless of how polished the documentation appears.

All very informative
Very helpful but a bit worrying as to the amount of recording & documentation required to provide evidence of compliance
I think I'll now register for the complete series
These sessions are enough to have us reflecting & applying the learnings into our practices
Time is enough, resources are great
The best part of the event was...
System process required
It was very informative
Very comprehensive
The practical guidance on how to systematically review & test an RTO's risk management framework
The approach & resources made it easy to see how to follow a practical & logical process
Resources relevant to an RTO to implement thir own internal audit process

About the Internal Audit Series
Systematic monitoring & evaluation anchored by internal audit.
Under the 2025 SRTO, regulators expect providers to demonstrate active, systematic monitoring & evaluation. Internal audit forms the backbone of assurance. This is now the #1 area of non-compliance identified by ASQA.
The Internal Audit Series is a 12-month, structured internal audit program delivering practical, facilitated audits across all core VET operating functions.
