Before You Buy... Selecting & Governing AI Technology in VET
Activity
Better questions. Stronger due diligence. Safer technology decisions. Look beyond the sales pitch before you buy.
RTO and CRICOS providers are being presented with a rapidly growing range of AI-enabled platforms and technology solutions promising greater efficiency, reduced administration and improved compliance. But a polished demonstration does not establish that a product is appropriate, reliable, secure or capable of being effectively governed. Providers remain accountable for how technology is selected, configured, implemented and used.
In this practical Governance Series webinar, Vanessa Lyon and Phill Bevan will show VET leaders how to move beyond product claims and evaluate proposed solutions against organisational needs, regulatory responsibilities, user requirements, ASQA’s Principles for the Responsible Use of AI in VET, human oversight, data risks and implementation capability. The session provides a vendor-neutral pathway to making more transparent, evidence-based and defensible technology decisions before you buy.

Vanessa Lyon – Founder Assess Consulting | Assess Governance™
Helping RTO, CRICOS and GTO providers connect compliance with effective governance.
Vanessa Lyon is a VET compliance and governance consultant with more than 10 years’ specialist experience supporting RTOs, CRICOS providers and Group Training Organisations across Australia, backed by prior experience across regulated industries, business operations and leadership.
Her VET career began within RTO operations before moving into national consultancy, where she led a team of compliance consultants and supported more than 50 education providers each year. Her experience spans regulatory audits, rectification, initial registration and re-registration, systems, risk management, governance, organisational self-assurance and working with complex legal matters.
Before entering VET, Vanessa spent more than 20 years managing businesses and teams across three other regulated industries. This broader experience brings a practical commercial and operational perspective to her work and an understanding of the real pressures providers face in balancing regulatory obligations with running an effective organisation.
Through Assess Consulting Vanessa works alongside providers to make compliance and governance practical — helping organisations understand what needs to be done, where risk may exist, and how they know their compliance activities are being effectively managed.
