Beyond COVID-19: ASQA’s Strategic Review of Online Learning in the VET Sector
In a year of major upheaval, vocational education and training (VET) providers and providers of English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) have adapted how they deliver courses due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. These changes may have resulted in adjustments to delivery modes, resequencing of training provided, delivering different units of competency, or resulted in changes to staff and resourcing levels. Providers may also have identified new opportunities based on current industry needs. While some of these adaptations may be temporary, innovative changes have brought about new ways of operating on an ongoing basis while maintaining quality and achieving positive student outcomes.
In response to COVID-19, the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) provided a more flexible approach to regulation and created a range of resources to help providers find information they need to adapt to the ongoing challenges of the pandemic. The intention of this information is to assist providers to adapt while still meeting their regulatory obligations and delivering quality outcomes for students. ASQA’s strategic review of online learning in the VET sector was launched in the second half of 2020, following the shift online by many providers in response to the pandemic. This strategic review is designed to respond to challenges and information needs identified by providers and other stakeholders, and support providers in understanding and delivering quality online learning.
