  • Establishing and maintaining an effective relationship with the apprentice or trainee and their employer, including clear and frequently communication with all parties involved 
  • Developing and monitoring a Training Plan that supports competency-based progression and completion, while balancing the expectations of the apprentice or trainee and their employer 
  • Recognising the importance safety and supervision, and promoting a safe learning experience for apprentices or trainees, including physical safety and wellbeing of the apprentice or trainee 
  • Exploring a range of topics, such as: the impact of pre-apprenticeships, the use of logbooks and third-party reports, and seeking employer confirmation of competency.



Alan Maguire 

Alan Maguire has had extensive experience in the vocational education and training (VET) sector, working for major corporations, TAFE institutes and industry associations. He has represented the work skills and training needs of industry and employers on a range of committees and working groups, including Victorian ITABs, Course Accreditation Committees, Course Re-accreditation Committees, and Industry Reference Committee. 

Alan has performed various roles including trainer, instructional designer, project manager, quality manager, RTO auditor, program manager, RTO manager, and VET adviser. After a career spanning more than 35 years, he has turned his attention to informing and educating the next generation of VET practitioners, including the frequent publication of articles on LinkedIn about Australia’s VET system and the TAE Training Package.
